TC Electronics Konnekt 8

konnekt 8So I got me a Konnekt 8 to use as a digital S/PDIF converter for my Mac Mini.  From the Mac Mini I use the Konnekt 8’s S/PDIF output to connect to my old Aragon D2A converter.

It works very well thank you, and I am satisfied with the Konnekt 8 for this purpose. I figured I would eventually use the inputs to do some recording, or perhaps try and record some of my vinyl.

The other day I plugged my phono preamp into the front Mic Pre’s on the Konnekt 8, and while I could gain up Ch 1, turns out Ch 2 would not gain up at all, when I turned the gain trim knob.

I did a little google searching, tried the TC Electronics FAQ section and what I found, at least in Google, is that users have had issues with trim pots, low gain, and broken software.

I am cool on the software side, never had a problem and the Konnekt 8 works better on the MAC then both the M-Audio  and Prosonus models. It’s the hardware that is giving me problems.

Sure, I am satisfied with the unit as an S/PDIF converter, but really, I paid enough for this thing, and the inputs where going to be icing on the cake. To bad they don’t work.

I have an email into TC Electonics, but I hear tell they don’t reply in a prompt way. Oh well, time to find my receipt and hope for the best.

Really though? I’d like things to just work.
